Healthcare Construction Questions
Written for the practice owner, the administrator and the developer.
Tell us the space, the specialty, and whether the facility will be licensed. Those three answers decide almost everything else.
FAQ
Healthcare and medical construction in Florida
- Does our facility need plan review?
- Ask your design professional or healthcare counsel in writing, before signing a lease. Do not assume from similar projects.
- Will you price without that answer?
- No. The two categories are too different.
- What makes healthcare cost more?
- Review, air handling, medical gas, life safety and occupied-facility working. Rarely finishes.
- Where does containment fail?
- Above the ceiling grid, where the plenum stays open.
- Is negative pressure monitored?
- Continuously, and logged for your infection preventionist.
- Who installs medical gas?
- Qualified installers, with independent verification by a party who did not install it.
- Can you self-certify medical gas?
- No, and a contractor offering to should be questioned.
- Can an exit be blocked briefly?
- No. Never, under any circumstances.
- Can a sprinkler zone go out of service?
- With an impairment procedure, a fire watch and the facility's agreement.
- Can the clinic stay open?
- Usually. The program is built around the clinical schedule.
- Why does dental equipment selection matter early?
- Utility positions come from manufacturer templates and go under the slab.
- Who designs imaging shielding?
- A medical physicist. We build to it.
- What is special about MRI?
- The magnetic field extends beyond the room permanently, including above and below.
- What drives infusion cost?
- The compounding pharmacy air handling, not the infusion floor.
- Is this site regulatory advice?
- No. General information. Your design team and the agency decide.
